Weight changes everything

A 3000×2200mm unit in 8mm+8mm glass weighs around 260kg — far beyond safe hand-carry. Vacuum lifters and glazing robots become standard kit, and the route from van to opening needs planning: gate widths, ground conditions, scaffold clearances. Thickness steps up

Deflection governs big panes, so jumbo units move to 8mm and 10mm glass, often laminated for retention at height. Cavities stay conventional; overall unit thickness and weight rise accordingly — hinge-side hardware and setting blocks must be specified to match.

Design details that help

• Design openings so the largest unit arrives before restrictive scaffold goes up
• Keep one standard-size opening near the big one — it becomes the fitting team’s access route
• Agree crane or robot hire dates before confirming glass delivery
