Walk-On Glass
Structural glass floors engineered for pedestrian loading. Every ply toughened, bonded with 1.5mm DuPont SentryGlas® (SGP) structural interlayers — 5× stronger, 100× stiffer than PVB. Anti-slip surface treatments available — sandblast, acid etch, ceramic frit or film.
Walk-On Glass — Structural Floors
Walk-on glass uses the sacrificial ply design principle: a minimum of three plies — every one toughened — bonded with 1.5mm DuPont SentryGlas® (SGP) structural interlayers, so that if the walking surface is ever damaged the plies beneath carry the full design load safely. SGP is 5× stronger and 100× stiffer than conventional PVB, which is what makes genuine structural spans possible. Low-iron glass (Pilkington Optiwhite, SGG Diamant) is recommended for thick multi-ply layups to reduce the green tint that standard float produces.

Critical Requirements
- Structural engineer sign-off REQUIRED for all installations
- Every ply toughened — no annealed or heat-strengthened plies
- DuPont SentryGlas® 1.5mm structural interlayers throughout — not conventional PVB
- Continuous 4-edge support, minimum 25mm bearing
- Deflection limit: span/250 under full imposed load
- Low-iron glass recommended to reduce green tint in thick layups

What a Walk-On Panel Weighs
Glass weighs 2.5 kg per m² per mm — and a walk-on layup carries three full plies of it, so panel weights climb fast:

Anything much past half a square metre exceeds the 60 kg mechanical-handling threshold — plan the lift before delivery day. Check any size on the glass weight calculator.
Site Care for Walk-On Panels
These are the heaviest panels we make — treat the lift as a planned operation, not a carry:
- Mechanical by default. Above 60 kg — which covers most walk-on sizes — use lifting gear; suckers handle only the smallest panels (from 25 kg).
- Flat is for the floor, not the stack. Even floor-rated glass stores upright on A-frames, under cover, with the structural laminated edge protected until the panel is bedded.
- Slow acclimatisation. Thick laminates take longer to reach room temperature — allow extra time, never fit below 5°C, and install within 28 days.
Lead time: 7-10 days — SGP lamination is made to order.
