Smart Glass — Instant Privacy

PDLC (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal) film contains billions of microscopic liquid crystal droplets in a polymer matrix. Unpowered: crystals are randomly oriented, scattering light to create a frosted opaque appearance (privacy). Powered: voltage aligns the crystals and light passes through — the glass becomes clear and transparent. Switching takes less than 100 milliseconds. Power consumption is just 5-7 W/m² when clear, and zero when opaque. Can also be used as a rear projection screen in opaque state.

Site Care for Switchable Glass

Everything that applies to ordinary sealed units applies here, plus one rule that outranks the rest: the cable is not a handle. Never lift, drag or hang a switchable unit by its flying lead, and protect the cable-exit corner as carefully as the edges.

• Store upright, dry and covered — moisture near the cable exit is the enemy. Suckers above 25 kg, mechanical above 60 kg.
• Fit within 28 days, above 5°C, and let the unit reach room temperature before first power-up. Test switching before final trim-out.
