Introduction

Julie Khuu, an interior designer, provides a guide on choosing easy modern window shades for a home office.

Why Window Shades Matter

Khuu explains that window shades are essential for a home office as they regulate natural light, control privacy, enhance productivity, and contribute to the overall aesthetics.

Types of Window Shades

Khuu discusses six popular types of window shades:

  • Roller shades: Simple and easy-to-use shades that come in various fabrics and designs.
  • Solar shades: These block harmful UV rays while maintaining a clear view outside.
  • Cellular/Honeycomb shades: Energy-efficient shades with a honeycomb-like structure that provides insulation.
  • Pleated shades: Foldable shades that add texture and dimension to a room.
  • Roman shades: Elegant and versatile shades that can be customized with different fabrics and patterns.
  • Wood/faux wood blinds: Classic and durable blinds made from natural or synthetic materials.

Factors to Consider

To choose the right window shades for a home office, Khuu suggests considering the following factors:

  • Light control
  • Privacy
  • Energy efficiency
  • Aesthetics
  • Easy maintenance

Conclusion

In conclusion, choosing the right window shades for a home office is crucial as they play a significant role in regulating light, maintaining privacy, enhancing productivity, and adding to the overall aesthetics of the space.

Subscriber here. A window treatment company suggested that I get outside mount for the cellular shades I want, for full blackout. Wondering why outside mount is a less popular option?

Thanks for a great video Julie and I had to laugh at your hubby's mass of wires. My hubby is also in tech but he hates messy wires and stores them neatly. I wanted to send him over to your house IMMEDIATELY to fix that mess LOL. On the other hand, my hubby's desk looks like an electronics store barfed on it, parts everywhere!

They look great, but I would not call them roller shades. To me they are blinds.

Hi, Julie. Great content and just what I needed to hear about. There's a window treatment dilemma I've been scratching my head over for years, so I went back and watched your Ultimate Guide to Window Treatments video as you had suggested. In it, you included a photo of a room that is very much like my problem area, but you used it to illustrate something else and didn't address the problem I'm having. I'm going to go to that older video and leave a comment there about my issue, so please follow me over there. Thanks, Julie!

Windows are my dilema right now! I have a beautiful, tall, arched window in my living room, and I have no idea how to dress it. My ceiling follows the shape of the roof, so I can't just install really tall curtains. I haven't found much on how to style an arched window, so any tips would be appreciated. πŸ™πŸ₯°
