Eem people don't seem to realize that this is exactly how the aristocracy behaved with their lower in command and that the whole war was theatre of death, theatre being the operative word and death being the obvious one.

I've seen these clips more times than I can count – and I've only just noticed that General Melchett has been awarded the VC and bar. Even the wardrobe department were comedians.

Ironically the military leadership on all sides had very little regards for the average soldier. They were almost to the man ALL from highly privileged and inbred backgrounds with zero military experience.Their arrogance knew no bounds.
During the battle of Sebastopol the officers had their servants had a silver service breakfast set up overlooking the battlefield so they AND their wives could watch the morning attack on the enemy.

Officers were more likely to be killed or seriously injured than NCOs and other ranks. But let's keep that lie going, eh.

Would be funny if it weren't so accurate.
Even in WW2, the allies often chose the stupidest option, based on the idea that this would "Catch Gerry by Surprise."

I love Stephen Fry's enunciation. The way he moves his lips makes me think of the stereotypical WW1 British General with a fancy for Safari hunting. He's such a treat.
