The glass house is great, but where did he wash and dry his clothes?

I agree it's great, but-this is not usable in our society..modern housing is for all people..

Mentions MOMA but then jumps to him going back to school in his 30's to study architecture. Sadly, he spent his 20's as a forceful proponent of American fascism and all the ugliness of that movement. He did say later that it was his greatest regret to have been involved.

Beautiful simplicity. But got to be horrifying when sleeping here at night. Like being in your own horror movie.

I still don't understand how CT/NY can have such amazing architects and houses……and most of the houses here look like pure garbage.

this reminds me of a place i saw maybe 6 years ago when I was living in Bali, at the time it was abandoned but it's probably completely leveled at this point. It was a beachside building, likely a house but I'm not sure, made almost entirely of glass with only a few concrete/metal beams for structural integrity. It was seriously magnificent even in its sad abandoned state, with stairs of glass, walls of glass, not just clear class but carved, frosted and textured glass too, it had huge mass of seaglass "pebbles" as a ground-cover (one of which I kept). Memory is a bit hazy, but I still remember how cool it was.

I wonder if Johnson and Mies developed any animosity over making very similar houses (Glass House and Farnsworth House)… particularly after sharing the idea.

I loved going here. Growing up in CT this is one of the coolest spots we have to visit. It's such a beautiful property
