The only thing I recommend add tape on the ends of the plastic so not debris or little insects getting

Awesome build! I saw this while I had a different build design, now after seeing yours, I am going to build something very similar. BTW: The roofing material is a Home Depot now. Curious if anyone made a material list to build something similar? Seems like enough people copied the design, very cool!

Just fyi your siding trim pieces aka j channel, f channel etc. can be nailed tight you just don’t want to nail your siding tight!

Hello, curious if you put the ledger board what looks like straight into the studs? Did you use for 1/2" lag like you would on say a normal floor rim board or smaller ledgerlok type screws?

How about the snow and ice build up on the Plexiglas. Does it really affect the structures of the canopy

  8. @jeremymacachor6862 8 months ago

Hey! Whats the benefit of taking the siding off before attaching the ledger? Why not just screw it on top of the siding?

You got the wife to help? Fantastic, not all wives care to tackle carpentry, even fewer are inclined to get their hands black & greasy while changing oil. Kudos to your sweetie, she's a keeper for sure! 🙂

  23. Does the heat come through the roof panels?

Do you put anything inside the H channels like a sealer or just put it as it comes?

Question: What were those white outline boxes on your eave directly outside of the door from the house to the deck?

  26. @christined2066 8 months ago

You did a great job, but for the price I prefer my Sunsetter awning. I have a manual XL version. We roll it out Memorial Day. Put up the arches (by the same company) with wind deflappers. I have had torrential down pours and strong winds with no problems. We keep it all summer. Labor Day comes, we remove the arches, lower the side brackets and wipe it down while rolling it up and it is stored on the house under the eave during our hard core Vermont winters. My boyfriend and I installed in a few hours. It takes us 15 minutes to set up in the spring and maybe 1 hour to clean and roll up. We have had it 10 years, looks brand new. We are under it in the shade and even 😊when it is raining. It rolls up and gives us all the sunshine we want the rest of the year. Over 200 sq feet of usable deck for less than 1 grand.

I’ve used those panels before for similar projects. You have to seal the top channels (next to house) of the poly. If you don’t water and debris will get in the channels and then it doesn’t look too good. Iirc I used a foil with a u channel from the poly company. The bottom channels of the poly need to be sealed, but may be different to let moisture out.

Great video. What's the name of the company that carries these panels?

  31. @EdA-bz3bu 8 months ago

    Looks great.
How about some cross braces the two supporting posts so they don’t rack. (Push on the side of the posts)

  33. @yrot1123 8 months ago

starting the process of building the patio cover, learning a lot from this video about the ledger board installation. that's the main concerns for the roof holding up.. clear panels look nice but too hot in Texas to use the similar materials, in addition I want to collect water for irrigation.. enjoyable with all the common mistakes that could help to minimize..the next challenge is to find a good helper and a beautiful wife to boss me around…LOL

  34. @edwardperez6729 8 months ago

Mann, this looks good! Great job.

  35. @KimmoJaskari 8 months ago

Great roof. I just had to remove one on my house (built before me). It was too low, too sharply angled, and it had beams smack dab in the middle of the patio. It had clear plastic too, gone very dim, but it still blocked immense amounts of light… had to go. Now I guess I need a parasol. And to oil the wood on an annual basis…

  46. @mariecipolla4886 8 months ago

Hi, loved the video. I have a pergola, my supports are 2 feet, 1/2 inch going across x 25 foot length span. I have half inch 4 x 8 lattice all the way across for shade and that has stayed pretty nice. We put clear rolled plastic on last year due to a rained out party. I want to put the Suntuf up, but do i rip all that off down to the rafters, and lastly, do i need purlins in between? Why not attach the Suntuf right to the rafters? i have a 12 inch pitch. Sorry, I am a girl and have to hire this done, not sure what is best… Already in about 1000.00 not including screws, silicone, contractor, etc.
