How do you remove a Hillary’s Velux blind?
Good Video! I just check the price of a Black Out shade at Velux for my skylight, 500 dollars! I couldn't believe it. Thats too much for me. How much was your shade 6 yrs ago?
Hi Charlie, thank you for this very useful video. I had the builders install the blackout blinds for me when they’ve done the loft conversion. As of recently i noticed that it’s not completely blackout anymore due to the sides dropping out of their channels inwards in places hence when trying to pull up the sides tend to create badly. I can see there are some little weights on the sides of the curtain missing in places. Any advice how to fix this would be much appreciated. Thanks
you saved my day bro'da LOve you
Thank you so much. I will try to do this myself now. You are so clear with your explanations!
Really helpful cheers 🤙
Just fitted my velux after watching. Thank you so much you made it really easy and quick to do
Hi Charlie. New subscriber, even though I’ve been watching you for years but I have a problem. I have searched all the videos on your channel because you’re my Go-To-Guy for all things DIY and I couldn’t find anything related to revarnishing Velux windows. As it happens, this very type of blind that you installed in this video is one of the ones that I have but how do you uninstall it, considering it ‘clicks’ into place (i.e. how do you unlatch the fittings, without destroying them?). Also, and most importantly, do you have any advice for stripping and revarnishing said Velux window? It would be great to know which stripper to use (e.g. Nitro-Mors), as I don’t think sanding is the way to go – I did that on two of the other Velux windows years ago and it was a nightmare with all the nooks and crannies. I can’t recall which varnish I used then but considering we are on the Giant’s Causeway Coast of Northern Ireland, our winters can be very wet and cold and the condensation is always a problem with these windows. Your videos on that, especially using the Karcher vacuum, were a brilliant idea and it’s what we do every morning now in the winter. Thanks for that! But which is the best varnish to use? A hardy internal varnish, a marine varnish or should I try to recover them with something like the original polyurethane varnish – at least I think that’s what is on them. They are peeling and the moisture is now penetrating the wood. Sorry for such a long query. Thanks in advance for any help you can give. Your experience and videos are great. Thanks. D.
Charlie, you didn’t measure/define the position of the bottom grey brackets – the distance from the edge- that the side channels clip into. Is that “obvious” or important?
Many thanks Charlie – I managed to do this and saved myself a sizeable amount of money – keep making the videos!
I knew when he said it was so easy to install that there was going to be trouble. There's no mention of how to position the lugs and of course that's where the real problem is. VELUX are worse with their wretched hieroglyphics that explain nothing.
Perfect, just done my first Velux blind – you are so good at explaining and showing – thank you so much! 3 more to do – easy peasy!!
Just had my Velux windows fitted. And, I have just fitted my black out blinds hassle free thanks to you Charlie. Your instructions are so, so clear, we'll delivered (you can tell I'm a teacher) and I really appreciate all the extra little tips which make a massive difference.
You are very good. Thanks again.
